Five femmes took their first burlesque class in San Francisco, CA. The delicious Miss Red Velvet taught Burlesque Intensive I for Bombshell Betty's Burlesque school. She showed her students how to shimmy and shake in all the right ways. A few of the youngest shimmy-and-shakers started to make eyes at each other from across the room, increasingly week by week.
By April 2016, the class was ready to debut. They flooded the green room of Elbo Room with nerves setting their hearts aflutter. One by one they took to the stage to share their newly found strip-tastic talents. Harley SeQuinn donned a Harley Quinn cosplay and lipsynched their way through Helen Kane's 1929 hit "I Want To Be Bad". Barbie Bloodgloss shared a demonic and delicious Alice Cooper tribute to "Feed My Frankenstein". Lilith De Fee strapped on a brown furry merkin and transformed in front of the audience's eyes to "Teenage Werewolf" by The Cramps. Finally, the group of debuts, with Risky Ginger and Kitty KaPowww, closed out the night with "When You're Good To Mama" from Chicago, the musical in naughty housewife attire.
This event sparked a current of inspiration in Kitty's brain. She immediately messaged Barbie, Harley, and Lilith to schedule a cakes & ale meeting. They convened at Sweet Inspiration in the Castro to devise their dastardly plan - a witchy, horror-sinspired burlesque troupe. Barbie named us Hex in the City.
Within a week, Kitty invited Risky Ginger to join the coven at a late night rehearsal. Ginger's "yes" could not be more quick or emphatic. Together the five concocted a delicious medley of Rocky Horror Picture Show classics.
Although Lilith's life swept her away from performing with Hex in the City, we are so happy to announce her successful career and engagement to her partner Marcos!
Hex in the City debuted their first ever group act in May 2016 at Bombshell Betty's All Kinds of Sexy Burlesque Benefit (sci-fi theme). Risky Ginger and Kitty KaPowww also made their solo debuts. Ginger sizzled as a sexy, sadistic nurse and Kitty brought a fresh take on the Bride of Frankenstein. The show was a smashing success, banding together this group of queerdos.
The witches went on to host their first private performance in August 2016, and then produce their first public cabaret in Decmeber 2016. The coven was joined by Sparkles Devine the Cosmic Magpie and Cheetah Biscotti, "the cutest clown in town". In February 2017, they added Moelicious and Scott McPhearson to their ranks. Also, Papa Squat (a.k.a. Captain KaPowww) made his burlesque debut in a solo with his beloved, Kitty.
Together, these magical beings grow and expand with insurmountable ambition each day. Check our Crystal Ball to see what is on the horizon.
